In Ortona, exactly in Villa Caldari, along Saint Thomas Path ( from Ortona to Rome), there is a fountain oozing wine.
Wine instead of water!
This “miraculos fontain” isn’t part of parable “the Wedding at Cana” and so it isn’t anything miraculous at all but it is a real fountain of wine, that has been inagurated just a few days.
Pilgrims, following the faithful traces of Saint Thomas to get to Rome from Ortona, can now find refreshment at this special fountain that, instead of the usual water, will gush out free wine.
An one more reason to follow the faithful path!
in Italy, there are other wine fountain, like in Taranto (Carosino) and in Rome (Marino) or also in Gorizia (San Florino del Collio) but this fountain instills red nectar continuosly and not temporarily, only on few occasions, like the other ones. So this abruzzian fountain can be considered the first italian wine fountain, where everyone, who is navigating the path, can help themselves to this delicious drink.
The idea is inspired by the famous Santiago Path, where in one of the stopping points pilgrims meet the fountain Bogedas Irache, which dispenses copious wine.
